Christian States of America?

One Nation Under God

There are those who write about America’s problems and bemoan things that we see going on around us. They like to tell us that we must do something, but they seldom have a specific answer. Many of those that want us to do something have in mind the support of a cause that seeks to restore or protect things that Americans once took for granted. These causes are usually narrow in scope and won’t fix the whole problem. In this document, I am not going to rehash all that is wrong. I will outline it only as necessary to make my point in a call to specific action.

There is much that I could write to defend my primary assertions, but I think that too many words will discourage my readers from reading what I consider to be important. For this reason, I am having to severely edit my own writing.

I don’t have all of the answers, but I can, and will, create a framework, that will hopefully entice others to make contributions to flesh out what I outline.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Millions of school children, including this writer, have recited this pledge every school day. But I also grew up to prefer substance over symbolism, so I am forced to ask some very difficult questions. I am asking you to consider them with me.

Are we in fact one nation under God?

What is a nation? It is a people with defined geographical borders who live under one government. The United States of America can be said to have one government in the sense that there is no other that claims authority over the land that we know as America. The definition of our government is alleged to be the Constitution. Yet, there is a huge body among those who govern us that ignore the Constitution except when it serves their purposesi. There are others, inside and outside of government, that claim that the Constitution says things that it does not.ii

What we are talking about is not one governmental concept with different views as to how it should be implemented, but two completely different governmental concepts, two completely different world views and two completely different ideas as to how the people of the United States should be governed. These two views are often referred to as a “culture war”, but either side in the culture war requires a unique view of the Constitution. Each calls for a different kind of government. One calls for a nation and government that is under God; the other demands a secular government, with no religion other than secular humanism. This so-called “culture war” is not going to be won at the ballot box or even in the courts. There are too many people on each side of it for either to prevail.

Christian taxpayers, as members of the general public, are required to support those in the public arena (government schools, for instance) who blaspheme our faith. Too many Americans are ignorant of America’s history and heritage. Too few have any idea what our Founding Fathers gave us or how what they gave us contrasts with the leftist agenda being pushed on Americans today. Today’s Christian Americans have been forced into a war of attrition, having to continuously fight for such basic things as parental rights or the right to have a cross or a representation of the Ten Commandments in a public place. Regardless of the dictates of common sense or legal precedent, Christians are being arrested for praying silently in public or for preaching in public places. Our youth are being prohibited from using a public forum to give glory to God. When one Christian is being exonerated by a court in the public expression of his faith, another is being accused. The issues are never solved. The same legal battles are fought again and again, for false accusers are never punished. Is there a solution?

One Nation under God, Indivisible

Is America indivisible? Must it be? Is the indivisibility of America in that document that defines America, the Constitution? Must the indivisibility of America be elevated above the preservation of Christian principles in our government?

As a native American (one born in this country) I have taken great pride in being a citizen of the United States of America, that Nation blessed by God, which stands for righteousness in the world and protects the weak and downtrodden. With tears, I must confess that the America that I am so proud of is fighting for her very life, not from an external enemy, but from corrupting internal forces. And Christian Americans are losing! Those who control American government today do not represent the views of the Framers and Founders of our country. America is no longer good. She is no longer great, for her greatness depended on her goodness.

So, why then do we Christian Americans hold on to that word “indivisible” as being essential to the character of America? There is security in being part of the bigness of the U.S.A. We have the greatest military in the world. We are the richest country in the world. Are the size, the might, and the wealth of the United States of America the things that Christians should cling to? Was being a part of the world’s greatest super power, Great Britain, enough to keep George Washington, John Adams, John Hancock and the other revered names in American history within the tyrant’s grasp?

What is keeping you from taking a stand for living in a Christian country? You could lose your pension. You could lose your job. There’s a long list of what anyone who might abandon the United States of America could lose. But there are many things that you can gain, such as a spiritually safe place to rear your children. The list of what you could gain is also long. But where is this Christian country whereof I write? Possibly, right where you are sitting or standing. Let me explain.

Illegal aliens are a large force in America today. Backed by leftist politicians, allegedly American, La Raza has declared a civil war intended to found the Mexican state of Aztlan in the same place that the southwestern United States now stands. These same leftist politicians declare places of sanctuary for these illegals. Our Federal Government refuses to secure our borders. Those in power do not value the territorial integrity of the United States of America. Let us use these forces to establish the Christian States of America.

Conservative talk radio hosts are calling for their listeners to encourage illegal aliens to move to California and other places that have declared sanctuary for them. Let us strengthen their hand. When these illegals are strong enough, they will declare their independence from America. (The border of Aztlan does not need to be the border that they have drawn, which is what the United States took in the Mexican War.) Will the American government go to war to prevent this take over?

Note that all of the candidates for President of the United States in the 2008 election favor legalization of the illegals in one form or another. Two of the three hate our military. Will the military be used to suppress such an insurrection? Would a military solution be successful? Will President Barack Obama, President Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi call on Americans to lay down their lives to take Aztlan back from Mexico? It’s not likely.

Once it has been established that the corrupt government of the United States of America will not fight for its territorial integrity, it will be time to mount another secessionist movement, the Christian States of America. Like the Confederate States of old, the new C.S.A. will be founded upon the framework of the Constitution of the United States of America, but with changes designed to insure that the abuses that have disintegrated the U.S.A. will not be repeated. Let us state from the outset that armed insurrection by Christians is not a part of this picture. We will walk away from the Diverse States of Americaiii, and they will allow it to happen.

Why call the new nation, the Christian States of America? Those who know U.S. history know that it was founded as a Christian country. But there are those today who will argue that it was not and use that argument to try to force the secularization of our society. Putting the word “Christian” in the country’s name will cause those who might try such a thing in the future to be seen for the liars they would be. None will be able to say the name of the country without saying “Christian”.

The changes that would be made to the new Constitution will have to be hammered out in detail in Constitutional Convention. But here are a couple of starter ideas:

  • The Constitution will contain within its text a declaration of how its provisions are to be interpreted. The Convention will note how the U.S.A. has perverted each Article and Amendment from what was stated in the Federalist Papers and write text to clearly define exactly what the Constitution says and does not say. Judges in the C.S.A. will have very little “wiggle room” in Constitutional interpretation.
  • Each Article and Amendment will have in it a law to give it teeth. That law must be a part of the Constitution, so that it cannot be negated by a future Congress. We must not allow a corrupt Congress to be able to refuse to adhere to the Constitution, the condition that we have today.

It should be noted that the new country will not be the Baptist States of America. Nor will it be the Catholic States of America. The government must be inclusive of all who acknowledge our Judeo-Christian heritage. The Christian States of America will not be a country for Christians only. Non-Christians will be welcomed as a part of the new country, but the governing principles and Constitution of the C.S.A. must be distinctively defined as Christian in the same mold as the United States of America originally was. Those who desire to live under secular, i.e. godless, government should be encouraged to move to the Diverse States of America. Those who want to live under Islamic law should live in an Islamic country.

God bless the Christian States of America.

i The Tenth Amendment, the last among the Bill of Rights, limits the powers of the Federal Government to those things authorized by the Constitution. Yet, most of what the Federal Government does is not authorized.
ii Nothing in the Constitution calls for separation of church and state, much less forbids public religious expression.
iii Those in power may choose to not change the name of the United States of America, but they have, in fact, already changed it to the Diverse States of America.

“Note that all of the candidates for President of the United States in the 2008 election favor legalization of the illegals in one form or another”

America’s Independent Party Presidential Candidate Alan Keyes does not favor legalization of illegals in any form. Here is his view on
the matter: “Our country’s immigration policy should encourage legal immigration to be maintained, and illegal immigration to be curtailed. The policy should be enforced through existing laws.

It’s a travesty when those who have abided by the law and become citizens through the proper means are considered no different than those who have not. If we start extending all the privileges of life and citizenship to people who are not citizens and who are not here legally, then we’re breaking down our own laws.

And in breaking down those laws, we’re creating a situation that will eventually damage our economy, damage our ability to deliver social services, damage our ability to maintain schools on an equitable basis, and so forth. It doesn’t make sense.

That’s why I believe that we have to enforce our immigration laws, and that we shouldn’t be putting laws on the books that will extend to non-citizens the privileges of citizenship, because I think you are actually inviting people to violate the law when you’re doing that, you’re decreasing the respect for the law.

Let me stress that I believe that immigration in the true sense is good for America. This would mean policies aimed at assuring that, by and large, the people who come to America come with the intention of becoming full and responsible citizens of the republic. It also means discouraging any who think they have the right to establish foreign enclaves in our midst, so to speak, in order to gain economic advantages for themselves without fully committing to help us build this free society.

    Immigration, yes; colonization, no.

The first prerequisite, therefore, of any effective immigration policy is to regain full control of the borders of the United States. Proposed legislation in Congress falls far short of what is needed to achieve this goal. Until our political leaders put in place the tools and forces needed to control our borders, responsible and moral Americans should oppose any measures that would signal our acceptance of the de facto colonization of our country.

President Bush’s guest-worker proposal and the Senate’s amnesty bill are such measures. They may serve short-sighted business interests intent on cheapening the cost of labor in our economy, and they may serve the corrupt interests of Mexican and other foreign elites seeking to relieve the pressure created by their own policies of greedy exploitation, but they do not serve the common good. Serving the common good demands policies that give preference in immigration not just to workers seeking jobs and money, but to those who seek liberty and the responsibilities of citizenship.

Let me add that it is incongruous that in the midst of the struggle we are now waging against the international terror network–a struggle that has taken various forms, including, we are told, the effort we are making on behalf of self-government and liberty in Iraq–I think it’s incongruous that we should be putting forth such a maximal effort of sending our men and women over there to risk their lives and spill their blood, and meanwhile we are being told that we don’t have the right to defend the integrity of the identity and the borders and the self-government of our own people.

You can’t have freedom in principle if you won’t defend it in fact! And if we let our borders collapse, the facts that support our freedom will be gone, and you know it.” - Alan Keyes

Ok, I like the basic idea, but how do we implement something like this during my lifetime? I am willing to do whatever may be necessary, but I have no idea what that might be. If this plan will ever become a reality, we will need some form of organized leadership. How do we get to that point, where we can do more than hypothesize about an ideal future? I know a number of like-minded folks who would be there for the cause of true freedom.

Leadership is the key word. I did not read one word about secession in the Congressional Globe (predecessor of the Congressional Record) in one volume of the 1860 edition. Perhaps the issue will explode and we’ll have that leader. There are Constitution loving leaders out there. (Judge Roy Moore comes to mind.) What will it take before people like him are motivated?
A secession movement might well be spearheaded by a state government that recognizes that the state’s agreement whereby they joined the Union has been violated by the Federal Government and the state refuses to take it any more. If your state is too leftist, move (if possible) to a more conservative state. Find out where your state representative stands and push him or her to be more Constitutional. Alternatively, work to elect a new one.
Above all, pray. I don’t know that a Christian States of America is God’s will. Make certain that your individual life is lived as much in accordance with God’s will as you know how. Ask Him to make your path more straight. He will bless the efforts of those who seek to please Him than He will those who want only their own way.
