Democracy Countdown

The things spelled out on this page is one of the reasons that our founding fathers gave us a republic rather than a democracy — to stop this cycle. We have denied the republic in favor of a democracy. That’s why we’re in trouble.

The Values Voter Debate — Huckabee - Keys

It’s 6:30 A.M. here in Finland. I didn’t sleep all night because the Values Voter Debate started at 2:30. I’m glad that I got to see it. I’m a U.S. citizen who votes.

Your Mate — Held in Trust

My wife is just that: my wife. But is she really? She is not my possession, for our relationship is temporary — for as long as we both shall live. My wife was bought and paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ, even as I was.

Relationships — Expectations and Accountability

Years ago, I was in a marriage relationship that failed. In fact, it was a failure from the beginning, but, because I wanted it to succeed, I kept working to make it so.

Learning Finnish

I moved from California to Finland in January 2006 in order to make a certain Pirjo my bride. I was 64 years old. The idea of learning a new language at that age is daunting. I found that I could learn just as easily as I could when I was young. I just couldn’t remember what I’d learned!

A Health Care Alternative

We can complain about health care in the United States and elsewhere, but I think that when we don’t like something, we should at least try to solve the problem. I, personally, believe that the Federal Government should be completely out of the health care business, for the Constitution doesn’t authorize it. The Government doesn’t have a good track record at solving business problems anyhow. The Government isn’t going to get out of the health care business, so I offer what I consider to be a compromise solution. I’m sure it will work.

While writing my solution to the American health care crisis, I kept in mind that other countries might also benefit from a similar solution, so I worded my essay accordingly.

Presuppositions of faith

I have known people who have been Christians, sometimes for many years, who have rejected the faith in favor of some other religion. I have also rejected the religions of others. I have wondered why reasonings which seem so logical to some are illogical to others. I may have found my answer in the theological realm of “presuppositionalism”.

Father Holds my Hand

I am one who likes to talk about my Heavenly Father. He has not only said that through Jesus Christ I am received as His son, but He has treated me like a son, too. I have written some stories about events that are remarkable to me for they show His active interest in my life. I want to share them with you in the hope that your faith might be strengthened and that you might enjoy knowing that you have a Father who wants to be reconciled to you and to share life with you.

One of these stories tells how God brought me to Finland to share life with the woman He chose for me. I want to share these stories with the Finns among whom I live. My Pirjo has graciously translated them to her language.

Here are my stories in both English and Finnish.

New Blog

This is a personal blog, where I share memories, opinions, ideas and even some computer code. I have three areas of interest that will get most of the attention: my Christian faith, my political ideas and my computer. There will be a number of entries on this new site, for I’ve written and saved things that I wanted to share someday.
